My name is Tony and I’ve spent most of my career putting GPS on buses.
This blog exists to introduce transit people to technology, and tech people to transit. I will cover a breadth of topics, from the philosophical, to practical, to deeply technical.
I believe in sharing my experience in a clear, concise, accessible, and vendor-neutral (no sales pitches!) manner.
I will be happy if this blog is a fraction as helpful to the industry as Jarrett Walker’s Human Transit blog.
FAQs are below the fold.
Who are you?
I have worked at the intersection of public transit and technology for more than a decade, moving from mapping and geo-spatial information and on to vehicle tracking / AVL/ Real-Time information and beyond. I have worked on projects in the public, private, and non-profit sectors.
I used to work for a Major Transit Agency in a large North American city on a team implementing new technology projects using the following principles:
1. Systems engineering;
2. Iterative development;
3. Openness;
4. Off-the-shelf technologies; and
5. Avoiding duplication and silos.
I believe in them, and you should too.
What do you do now?
I consult in the US and internationally, working on the topics that I write about here.
What about XYZ topic/wrinkle?
This blog will not provide exhaustive information on the topics covered; links will be provided to additional sources. Write a comment on a post and I’ll try to address it. Remember, courtesy counts, and sometimes I’ll agree to disagree.
Isn’t blogging dead?
